The CLASS Approach – Connect, Listen, Assess, Support, and Signpost – empowers you to create a supportive environment, facilitate meaningful conversations, and guide individuals towards the right resources. The five-step process includes:
- Connect: Recognise signs of distress (e.g., anxiety, withdrawal) and initiate a conversation by addressing specific behaviours.
- Listen: Follow the 80/20 rule—spend 80% of the conversation actively listening and 20% asking clarifying questions. Create a comfortable environment for sharing.
- Assess: Evaluate the situation to determine how you can best support the individual and identify the necessary actions.
- Support: Consider practical solutions, such as flexible working arrangements or regular check-ins, especially for managers and leaders.
- Signpost: Guide individuals to appropriate resources like Employee Assistance Programs, mental health platforms, or counselling services when needed.
