How we keep Currys colleagues safe, happy, and well

The wellbeing of colleagues is a top priority for Currys plc, one of the UK’s leading omnichannel retailers.

And with over 15,000 employees across the UK – many in customer-facing roles – Currys understand the importance of employee engagement and wellbeing when it comes to delivering exceptional customer experiences.

To keep their colleagues safe, happy, and well, Currys needed a comprehensive wellbeing provider. They found that within Champion Health.

Watch the video below to discover why.

The video above explores why the team at Currys chose Champion Health and how they have been leveraging the platform.

‘We were quite concerned quite quickly at Currys that we’d have to partner with lots of different organisations to help us with our wellbeing strategy.

‘The moment we met with Champion Health we realised actually we don’t need to do that,’ adds Steve Bird, Wellbeing Manager at Currys.

Paula Coughlan, Chief People, Communications and Sustainability Officer, agrees and places additional emphasis on the significance of employee wellbeing:

‘We really felt that wellbeing and us taking care of their wellbeing was really important in helping them to feel as engaged as they could be in Currys.

‘In our stores, for example, the stores with the highest levels of colleague engagement also have the happiest customers.

‘So, wellbeing was the right thing to do for our people, absolutely the right thing to do for our customers, and the right thing for our business.’

The excitement around the launch of Champion Health has been incredible. One enthusiastic colleague, commented ‘I was excited that we could have something about my full health and everything to do with my wellbeing, my diet, everything all in one place.’

The platform’s tailored content and personalised approach also garnered praise from another colleague, who appreciates that it feels ‘more tailored to me as a person rather than just general advice about wellbeing.’

Currys’ employees have found that Champion Health’s platform isn’t your typical app.

Part of me thought, oh no, here we go, another mental health wellbeing app. It will be the same as the others. But it wasn’t. I really do love all the content. It is a world apart from other apps I’ve used.’

The positive impact on employee wellbeing is evident. Improved sleep quality has brought about increased energy and focus for some, while another colleague emphasises the importance of mental clarity:

‘It’s very important that I come to work with a clear head. I can get on with my job, and then that way I’m leaving home and going home to my children on an evening. And I’ve got a clear head at home as well.’

Steve Bird, Wellbeing Manager at Currys, loves the data-driven approach of Champion Health:

‘One of the things that really excited us about Champion Health was the ability to understand our colleagues in a safe and confidential way. We’ll know with the data that we get with Champion Health, what we should be doing and more importantly, why we should be doing it,’ remarked Steve.

Paula Coughlan predicts a powerful long-term impact: ‘I think the long term impact of this platform is going to be really powerful for Currys and for our colleagues as well.’

With Champion Health, Currys is taking employee wellbeing to the next level.

One thing I’d say to organisations looking at their wellbeing strategy and thinking what can they do is definitely consider Champion Health, and I promise I’m not being paid to say that,’ concludes Steve.
