One Health treat 10,000 patients every year and are an NHS designated body. But when you’re focusing on supporting the health of others, it can be easy to forget your own wellbeing. This is how One Health reinvested in employee wellbeing, so they could continue caring for their patients.
With over 30 outpatient clinics and a UK-wide team of consultants, One Health Group’s NHS-trained consultants support 17,000 patients every year.
To ensure this large operation runs smoothly, they rely on a talented office-based team to help deliver the One Health vision. For many, the job is also a passion project.
But, for those working within healthcare, there’s an easy trap to fall into: focusing on supporting others without prioritising your own wellbeing.
And as One Health’s team felt the strain of working through the pandemic, their leaders decided to do more to support their people.
To make this a reality, they needed a prescription for an innovative and tech-driven workplace health platform to:
- Empower their employees to prioritise their own wellbeing
- Highlight the areas of wellbeing where their people needed support
- Measure the impact of their wellbeing strategy
So, in May 2021, One Health partnered with Champion Health.
Introducing the “Netflix of Wellbeing”
Partnering with Champion provided the One Health team with a market-leading workplace health platform. Described as the “Netflix of Wellbeing”, the platform covers every area of wellbeing to drive a holistic and personalised approach to workplace health.
Each of One Health’s employees now had the tools they needed to improve their wellbeing: a personalised health report, tailored action plans and customised content covering all areas of health.
The excitement and enthusiasm was clear; two-thirds of One Health’s employees completed their digital health assessment.
Within seconds of completing their assessment, Champion’s platform provided each employee with a personalised wellbeing journey, including tailored action plans, Olympian-led workouts, guided meditations and more.
Meanwhile, the One Health leadership team examined their Company Health Report: anonymised, aggregated data which uncovered the health trends prevalent in their business.
Discover how the Company Health Report gives you data-driven insights
Through their online dashboard, the leadership team explored hundreds of data points. And, with this holistic view of wellbeing in hand, the team could now create a truly data-driven and proactive wellbeing strategy.
Where does it hurt?
Their unique Company Health Report revealed that musculoskeletal (MSK) health was a pain point that needed fast attention:
- 71% experienced MSK pain
- 43% of that group said it was affecting their productivity
- Average sitting time per day was 13 hours and 36 minutes (around 50% more than the UK average)
With these previously hidden wellbeing challenges revealed, One Health’s leaders worked alongside their dedicated Champion Health Wellbeing Lead to develop initiatives to address them.
Developing the treatment
Utilising their anonymised health data, One Health developed a winning wellbeing strategy to boost productivity and improve their employees’ lives.
One Health launched their strategy by introducing free yoga sessions for their employees. As well as being proven to reduce back pain, these specialist-led sessions provided opportunities for employees to engage in physical activity during the working day.
They also took proactive steps to ensure that employees experiencing MSK pain were supported. To do this, they introduced additional ways for employees to share their concerns and struggles. This included:
- Setting up employee forums
- Running employee focus groups
- Circulating bespoke communications encouraging employees to share concerns with their line managers
Led by the their unique organisation’s data, utilising proactive and reactive wellbeing initiatives, One Health’s leaders knew they had developed a strategy that would have an impact on their employees’ lives.
Check-in 2: How have you been feeling?
In the next six months, engagement with the Champion Health platform increased further. And, it was time for One Health’s leaders to review and compare their Company Health Report, so they could verify the effectiveness of their strategy. The impact was clear to see.
By implementing a data-driven wellbeing strategy, which combined both proactive and reactive initiatives, One Health’s leaders had made a measurable difference to the lives of their employees.
What’s next: a fresh injection of insight
With Champion’s support, One Health’s leadership team has breathed new life into their wellbeing strategy and measurably improved their people’s lives.
